Think About Your Tablecloths And Napkins

Friday June 4, 2010

When you think about dressing a table in some way, you are only beginning to do so when you bring out your chosen dinner service. A dinner set is the crowning glory for sure, but wouldn’t you rather add those final special touches by buying some good quality tablecloths and napkins to go with it?

Some people invest in more than on set of tablecloths and napkins so they have a variety to choose from. A lot will depend on the colour of the dinner set you have chosen though, as this should always be the initial thing you think about when dressing your table.

For instance if you have plain white dinner plates, you can be quite free with your choice of tablecloths. Anything from a plain white tablecloth to a dark coloured one will do just fine. And you can add different accents with different coloured napkins as well.

But supposing you have a multi coloured dinner service? What would you add to it to finish it off then?

A lot will depend on the colours that are included in it – and of course, how many there happens to be as well. For instance let us suppose you have a dinner service that is made up of a mixture of different colours, perhaps half a dozen or more. In this situation a pure white tablecloth and napkins would work best, because anything else would make your plates look too busy. A white tablecloth allows you to show them off to their best advantage, and the white napkin will also stand out if you fold it and add it to the plate.

You could get away with a coloured tablecloth and napkins if your dinner set only consisted of two or three colours though. You would have to be careful not to go for clashing colours and instead pick something that really enhanced the main dinner set. As you can see, it isn’t always easy to create the right mood and the right colour combinations. You have to be very careful to get it just right.

Indeed, the mood of the occasion can also help you to figure out where to go with this theme. An elegant dinner party would go well with white accents and tablecloths, whereas a kids’ party would be far better with all the colours in the rainbow. Which colour scheme will bring out the best in your dinner set?
